Join Jeff Donnelly from the Miami Preservation League on a walking tour of Miami Beach's Art Deco District. Miami's Art Deco District is particularly known for the second phase of Art Deco known as "Streamline Moderne," which began with the Great Depression and ended with the start of WWII. Participants should consider staying in the historic district to enjoy dinner at one of the many local restaurants.
Where: The tour begins at the Art Deco Welcome Center, 1001 Ocean Drive on Miami Beach. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the Welcome Center. Please take a cab or public bus "C" northbound on Biscayne Boulevard near Bayside Marketplace (close to the hotel). The bus drops people off at 8th Street and Washington Avenue, two blocks west and two blocks south from the Welcome Center. The bus costs $1.50 (exact change required).
Cost: $20
Please register online using the conference registration form. The Art Deco Walking Tour has space for up to 30 participants. If you have questions about the tour please email Lizabeth Zanoni, 2008 SSHA Program Assistant, ssha2008@pop.umn.edu
