Network Representatives:

The States and Societies Network of the SSHA brings together scholars who research any aspect of states, societies, and the relations between them, throughout history and around the globe. The network is interdisciplinary and encourages the cross-fertilization of theory, concepts, and methods across traditional boundaries. What links members of the network is a shared interest in questions of power, politics, and society in comparative and historical perspective. For the 2010 SSHA conference in Chicago, the States and Societies network welcomed proposals for papers or panels that explored topics such as the sources and nature of state power; the historical transformations of states, forms of governance, social movements, and public policy; gender and politics; nationalisms; migration; and economic change. Panels that speak to the conference theme -- Power and Politics -- were especially encouraged.
